What the C555 Concrete Moisture Meter Can Do

Concrete surface moisture meters can tell you—qualitatively—whether a concrete floor slab is wet or dry. The ASTM F2659 standard says a concrete moisture meter is for the “preliminary evaluation of the comparative moisture condition of concrete, gypsum cement, and other floor slabs and screeds.”

A Concrete Moisture Meter is a Useful Tool When Used Correctly

The C555 effectively assesses the dryness in the top ½ to ¾ inches of smooth concrete slabs. It is an easy, quick, and useful first step that you can take when evaluating concrete slabs receiving some type of flooring finish. It is easy to use, but it’s the only concrete moisture meter in the market that allows for in-field calibration. This makes it easier to meet the calibration requirements of ASTM F2659.

How does a concrete moisture meter work?
A concrete moisture meter sends a signal from the sensor pad down into the concrete. The C555 meter reports the moisture level based on a capacitance equation calibrated specifically to measure within concrete materials. The C555 complies with ASTM F2659 to provide a preliminary evaluation of moisture conditions of concrete, gypsum cement, or other floor slabs and screeds.
When are moisture meters useful for concrete?
A concrete moisture meter that complies fully with ASTM F2659, like Wagner’s C555, can be used to determine higher or lower concentrations of moisture within a concrete slab.
